Joy B. Chastain, M.D., F.A.A.D.

Dr. Joy Chastain, a native of Columbus, Georgia, received her M.D. degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1997. Dr. Chastain completed an Internal Medicine Internship as well as the Residency Program in Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery also at Tulane. She has practiced Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery in Athens, Georgia since 2001 and has special interests in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers. She is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgeryas well as the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. She enjoys spending time with her two kids, Bella and Owen, her two dogs, Beaux and Liberty, and her two pigs, Darth and Rosey. She is also a Georgia Bulldawg fanatic!

Melissa Cannon, P.A.-C.

Melissa Cannon is a NCCPA Board Certified Physician Assistant. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Chemistry in 2008. She then went on to receive her MSPAS at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s surgical physician assistant program, where she also graduated Magna Cum Laude, in 2010.


After graduation, Melissa practiced Internal Medicine for four years in Alabama before joining our practice in November 2014 when she and her family moved to Athens. She enjoys treating both pediatric and adult patients in medical Dermatology as well as injecting neurotoxins. Melissa enjoys all areas of Dermatology, but her areas of interests include the prevention and treatment of skin cancers, eczema, psoriasis, and acne. Melissa stays current on the newest treatments and approaches to patient care through her active membership in the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, the Georgia Dermatology Physician Assistants, and the Georgia Association of Physician Assistants.


Melissa lives in Watkinsville with her husband, Trey, and their three children, Reid, Levi, and Sydney. She also has a dog named Baron. She enjoys being a soccer mom, traveling, and of course, watching Georgia football.
